 Binder Format

Your binder should consist of five sections.

Rules– This will include your syllabus, reference sheet, and rule sheets.

Vocabulary – All vocabulary words will be kept in this section.

Warm-ups – The warm-up section should be in order by date.  These warm-ups may need to copied from the board or it may be a worksheet passed out as you enter the classroom.

Test – This should include your grade sheet and your graded papers.  Your grade sheet should always have your grades and your average on it with a parent’s signature.

CW/HW – This should include any class work or homework.

You may have a notebook grade each nine weeks.  This may be done at anytime during the nine weeks. All assignments should have your first and last name on the top right side of your paper followed by the block, and the date

Example:  Trey Johnson

                 3rd Block

                 8-19-11

Grading Policy

Your grade will come from test, daily quizzes, notebook grade, and homework grade.  Quizzes may or may not be announced.  You need to be prepared each day for a quiz from the previous lesson.

Homework

There will be homework assignments given.  Homework is worth 10 points, which will be totaled at the end of the nine weeks as one grade, averaged with the tests and quiz grades.  Failure to complete homework will lower your grade.

Extra Help

Students are encouraged to come to my classroom for help in the morning from 7:30 – 7:55.  Students will have time to check homework, ask one-on-one questions, complete homework, and study.  There is also after-school tutoring on Monday – Wednesday from 3:30 – 5:00.

Make-up Work

YOU are responsible for any make-up work.  You should come by my classroom when you arrive back at school to make sure you understand the material missed or to schedule any make-up test.  You should attempt to get a missed assignment PRIOR to class time.

ISS

If you are sent to ISS, it is YOUR responsibility to come to my classroom when you return to school to see if you need to make up a test or do an assignment.

Classroom Rules

  1. Be IN your assigned seat, with needed materials and supplies, WHEN the tardy bell rings. (This includes having paper, pencil, books, and calculator at your desk).
  2. Receive permission to speak or leave your desk.
  3. Food, drinks, candy, and gum will not be allowed in the classroom.
  4. Be respectful to yourself, your classmates, and your teacher at all times.
  5. Keep your book/notebook open and continue to work until the teacher dismisses you.
  6. Do nothing to hinder the educational process of another student.

Demerits

Students are expected to be seated and have all necessary materials out on their desk when the tardy bell rings.  You should have homework ready to check and be working on the bell work when the bell rings.  Students who are late will receive a demerit.  Students will receive a d-hall after their third demerit in my class.  Leaving my classroom for any reason, other than being called to the office will result in a demerit.

Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated in the classroom.  It is my belief that every child has a right to an environment that is conducive to learning.  Students who disrupt the learning process will have consequences.

Consequences (disruptive behavior or breaking rules)

First – verbal warning – Strike 1

Second – verbal warning – Strike 2

Third – verbal warning – Strike 3 – d-hall

Fourth – d-hall or possible referral

I strongly believe that every child can be successful and I look forward to an exciting year.  Please feel free to contact me through the school at 853-2811 or email me at lchapman@hsdlions.org .  Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,
